Serene Hadaya - Medical School Student and ESL Tutor
A member of the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine Class of 2024, Serene Hadaya is pursuing a doctor of medicine with the goal of focusing on pediatrics. She received several scholarships throughout her time in medical school and belongs to the Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society, National Arab American Medical Society (NAAMA), and Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS). Serene Hadaya also holds a bachelor of science in biology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she received the UCLA Chancellor's Service Award.
Serene Hadaya has copious leadership and mentor experience. As the vice president of Loyola's SAMS chapter, she organized events and culture booths to raise awareness for the Syrian crisis and hosted virtual panels with Syrian physicians to highlight their contributions. She is also past president of the National Arab American Medical Student Association, and co-founded Students Organize for Syria at UCLA during her undergraduate career.
Ms. Hadaya is an English as a second language (ESL) tutor with Paper Airplanes and mentors first and second-year medical students with Achieving College Experience Tutoring at Loyola SSOM. She has also led group activities and weekly tutoring sessions to underserved elementary and high school students through Health Professionals Recruitment and Exposure Program at Loyola and Mentors for Academic and Peer Support at UCLA. In addition, she has volunteered with organizations such as Special Olympics, Tiyya Foundation, and Umma Community Clinic during her time at UCLA.
